CLARIFICATION

The Guitar Concerto Competition Preliminary round Rules are clarified as follows:

Guitar Concerto Competition (no age limit)

Preliminary round:

-Two or more works or movements of contrasting styles* (by different composers), including at least one baroque, classical or early romantic era (c.1780-1825)** work or movement.
Total duration: not to exceed 15 minutes.

*translation correction from the greek version of the Rules: the word "styles" to be replaced with the word "eras"

**refers to the composer's year of birth.

COMPETITION RULES

1. Open to all participants of the 12th InternationalVeria Guitar Festival (hereafter "Festival") registered as “Contestant”.

2. There will be two categories:

Young Guitarists: up to 23 year old
(Born on Jan 1, 1994 onwards)

Guitar Concerto Competition: no age limit

3. Dates & times:
(Schedule changes might occur. Participants will be informed promptly.)
Guitar Concerto competition: no age limit

Preliminary round: Day 2_Wednesday, April 19at 09:00 h.
Semifinal round: Day3_Thursday, April 20 at 09:00 h.
Final round: Day 5_Saturday, April 22 at 20:00 h.

Young Guitarists: up to 23 year old

Preliminary round: Day3_Thursday, April 20
(upon completion of Guitar Concerto Competitionsemifinal round)
Final round: Day 4_ Friday, April 21 at 10:00 h.


Awards presentation:

Day 5_Saturday, April 22 at 20:00 h
upon completion of the Guitar Concerto Competition final round.
Young Guitarists Competition winner(s) will perform works of the Jury's choice.


4. Contestants should declare their presence at the competition's Secretary office at least half hour ahead. Contestants who fail to provide official certificate of age (passport, ID or equivalent) will be disqualified.


5. Repertoire and Prizes:
(Praises will also be considered for all categories)

Guitar Concerto Competition (no age limit)

Semifinal round:

-One of the following guitar concertos:
Joaquin Rodrigo: Concierto de Aranjuez
Heitor Villa-Lobos: Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco: Concerto No. 1 in D major, Op. 99
Concerto will be performed in its entirety with piano accompaniment.

Final round:

-The concerto of the contestant's choice at the semifinal round.
Concerto will be performed in its entirety with the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

1st Prize
1000€
Paid concert (500€ plus travel and/or accommodation expenses up to 200€). The winner will be invited to play a guitar concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki at the early 2018 Concerts Series of the orchestra.

Payment and expenses covered by the Festival.

Invitation as a soloist to play a guitar concerto with the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra. The concert will be broadcast livenationwide by the 3rd Program of the Greek Radio.

2nd Prize

Invitation as a soloist to play a guitar concerto with the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra. The concert will be broadcast live nationwide by the 3rd Program of the Greek Radio.

(plus travel and/or accommodation expenses up to 200€).

- A recital at the Concerts Series of the Gyzi Megaron Concert Hall 2017, Santorini Island
(plus travel and accommodation expenses)

- A recital at the 2017-18 Concerts Series of Philippos Nakas Concert Hall, Athens.

6. Deadline for application:March 28, 2017.

7. In case of resignation the registration fee will not be refunded.

8.Participation of the same contestant in both categories is allowed on the condition that age criteria are met separately for each category and relative registration fees of each category are paid.

9.The participation in all rounds will be in alphabetical order.The contestants may choose the order of presentation of the works.

10. All works are to be performed by memory.Works performed in previous rounds may not be repeated, with the exception of the Guitar Concerto Competiton final round.

11. Before his presentation, the contestant must deliver to the Competition Secretary Office six (6) copies of the chosen works, with the exception of the semifinal and final rounds of the Guitar Concerto Competition, where copies are not needed.

12. The Guitar Concerto contestants who proceed to the semifinal round will be provided with a piano accompanist for one rehearsal and one service. Contestants are free to opt for their own accompanist. In this case, travel and accommodation arrangements, full expenses,as well as prompt timing of the accompanist for the performance are the responsibility of the contestant.

13. The Guitar Concerto contestants who procced to the final round are required to travel to the city of Thessaloniki to attend full rehearsals with the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, as scheduled by the Festival. Travel arrangements and expenses are the responsibility of the Festival. The finalists are also required to attend a soundcheck rehearsal with the orchestra, before the final round, at the Festival's venues, as scheduled by the Festival. The finalists might not receive in full their scheduled Festival's activities insofar that they should attend these rehearsals.

14. Travel and accommodation expenses are both the responsibility of the contestant.

15. All the rounds will be public.

16.The Jury will consist of teachers, soloist and personalities from the world of music.

17.No Jury member should give points to his own students.

18. The judges have the option of stopping the candidate during any of his performances.

19.The jury may declare undecided or split prizes.

20. The Jury’s decision is final and irrevocable. The Jury has the exclusive jurisdiction to resolve matters that may occur regarding the competition.

21. Final round results will be announced at the Awards Gala. The winning participants are required to collect their prize personally at the place and time where the Awards Gala is celebrated. Failure to do so will result in prize invalidation. Participation Diplomas can only be collected during the Festival. No Diploma will be posted.

22. Failure of any contract of award concerts will mean the loss of the concerts and the amount in cash.Relativetravel and accommodation expenses refund requires official invoices.

23. Applicants waive all rights for broadcasting and recording of their performances. The Festival has the right to create and use this material for the purpose of promoting its activities.
24. Contestants hold harmless the Jury, Artistic Director and KEPA of the city of Veria from any damages, claims, liabilities, costs or losses of any kind or nature whatsoever, which may in any way arise from the rehearsals, performance and recording.
25. Issues regarding all competitions not presently regulated fall under the exclusive, final and irrevocable jurisdiction of the Festival.
26. Only the greek version of the regulations is binding.
27. Participation in the 12th International Veria Guitar Festival implies full acceptance of the rules.
